Fert on silage ground and avoid Nitrate risk

Hi all,

I’ve just taken on a farm with silage ground which I’ve never had before. I’m aware of the nitrate risks with silage bale making when applying fert.
My question is hypocritical.
If I had a 2nd cut date planned 6 weeks after the first, and planned to put on 50units of N to follow, if for some reason the application of N was delayed what’s the best way to work out a reduction to suit the new time frame. Lets say the N is a week late going on.
I hope that makes sense.

Thanks

If it’s dry put half of what you’re planning to put on then if it rains go again, if it doesn’t you’ve not wasted as much money as you would of. 5 weeks is 35 days so you’re looking 70 max but I’d always leave a week off to make sure it’s out of the plant by cutting date. So you’ll be looking at around 55... if you have moisture.
