Ok I will break this down to make it EASIER for you and use your figure of 2500acres of work. You are looking at mowing, tedding twice for first cut, at least and depending on the weather maybe more, with very high output machinery. Rowing up. The forager. Four and, depending on distance, eight or more tractors and trailers and drivers, plus one, possibly two high capacity machines on the pit. None of which come cheap.
Who do you reckon is most likely to have a viable and profitable business using our respective costings for this year? You or me?
Complete foraging job for £47/ac, can you come over and do mine as wellOk I will break this down to make it EASIER for you and use your figure of 2500acres of work.
You buy a warranted sh forager for £150k spread over 5 years ,
put to one side £15 k a year for repairs ,insurance and servicing .
After 5 years it's still worth £75k so its cost you £30k a year plus
interest to own that machine .
£30K per year for forager plus 300 hrs to drive it at £15hr so £34.5 k a year before fuel.
Good secondhand mowers £20k over 5 years say 6k a year to include interest and repairs.
Good secondhand tedder £20k over 5 years same per year as mower £6k per year.
250 hrs each for mower and tedder of self employed own tractor operators 500hrs in total at £35hr =£17500
5 self employed own tractor with trailers men £35hr 250hrs each=£41250.
Loader on pit 300hrs at £40hr =£12000.
The remaining value of the mowers and tedder should pay half the interest charges.
Total £117250 before fuel as opposed to your £250 k before fuel.
Hey but what's £132750 between friends.
The figure was before fuel.Complete foraging job for £47/ac, can you come over and do mine as well
And rowing up as wellThe figure was before fuel.
Where are you going to find all that reliable labour when you need it? This isn’t a part time endeavour that can be done after a 9-5 job and certainly isn’t a job for the unemployed or unemployable with the size and complexity of the machinery involved and the cost and [un]availability of spare parts. This is a team job that needs to be synchronised and done by skilled people who are professionals, using large capacity reliable machinery in a timely manner.Ok I will break this down to make it EASIER for you and use your figure of 2500acres of work.

Sadly that will only buy him just over 30 tons, or a bit more than one truckload at current prices. It’s that bad a joke. Besides which, even if he decides to spend it on fertiliser, there is the little matter of supply at the moment. One truckload I’ve ordered has been ‘quarantined’ due to Russian sanctions and CF [ICI as was] and many other fertiliser companies have closed books for weeks on end because they are just not producing the stuff in any quantity currently.
The dust stuck to their finger after writing that will be worth it’s weight in goldAnd on a lighter note.

How would an outfit milking 700 cows get time to put in silage, it would be hard enough to get time to cover the pitOk I will break this down to make it EASIER for you and use your figure of 2500acres of work.

That's not what was posted I didnt mention the dairy staff doing the tractor work. How would an outfit milking 700 cows get time to put in silage, it would be hard enough to get time to cover the pit
It’s a nice idea but from what organic farms we go to to pick stuff up, apart from the fact it’s the shortest sample you’ve ever seen in many cases, what they all say is they are struggling without the N and the only way they are getting anything is by having stock in the rotationDon't have to be organic though, just because we don't use nitrogen
Must be right then if you read it on the Internet....I read on tinternet somewhere that Fends produce more diesel than they use

just ask bald rick about setting up doing your own silaging, he abandoned that idea didn't he?Where are you going to find all that reliable labour when you need it? Anyway, as I said several times, you just carry on and make your fortune. Let us know how long it takes before you are foreclosed. First, give your cashflow budget and business case to your bank manager and see how hard he laughs.
Budgets need to be realistic. You were out by well over 100 tons of fertiliser to start with and was it you that assumed that half the fertiliser could be replaced by slurry, which you must have presumed was currently dumped somewhere currently. Just the mistake that George Eustace made the other day while expressing some fantasy of his to much subsequent ridicule.
Your figures are exceptional.9500
