Been told this morning , CF can’t supply for two weeks
Yara can’t supply for three weeks
Just to fully make sure you can’t use new season prices on this years crops.
How nice of them..
900 a ton - can you take delivery tomorrow…

IMO, the fertiliser industry is broken. All other industries work on a just in time system for their inputs and inventory, and make their suppliers carry the cost, we seem to have to purchase the product and take delivery before the crop it will be used in is in the ground, utter madness.

From this year on I will be working on the Just in Time principle for my fertiliser.

Just In Time means someone else has to carry stock and have an ADR qualified lorry to get it to you.

4 years in 5, early ordering gets the best price. This last year was the 1 in 5. Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya? 🙂
I had known this for a few years but hadn't got involved with buying early....until last year. Definitely feels like an instant fail ad trying a different strategy. Big question is, do I do it again??

Yes with 20% loss urea is still slightly cheaper per unit N than CF ammonium nitrate, but urea not immediately available for uptake, so perhaps not the better buy for this time of year?

Anyway, been quoted lithan @ £330/t which is better than both

This 20% loss you speak of, is that from CF sponsored ‘research’ by any chance?

I agree that AN will give a faster response, and would choose to use AN over urea (if anything) with current conditions, but I would take that 20% loss figure with a very large pinch, nay, a shovel full, of salt.
Makes you wonder how the rest of the world cope with using urea N almost exclusively.🤔
