Fertiliser Spreader- best border spreader

I am considering swaping my current spreader either for this season or next. We currently have a Kuhn Axix on s6 discs with weighcells. I like the spreader except the occasional fault codes it throws however I find the border spreading poor.

We don't have massive fields so having a 6 m bout round every field which is 1t/ac less yield mounts up.

What spreader does everyone recommend. KV/vicon seem to get good reviews on here but they have so many different models.

Or do I just keep the current one for a few more years and do a 6m strip of liquid round headlands?

Ps disappointed with the paint on the kuhn.
Mix of crops over approx 500ac including grass. 28m spread for next season.

Kuhn H EMC or Amazone ZA TS both hydraulic drive so no deflector plate to throw through I really liked my kv but border spreading was rubbish my kuhn hydraulic drive previously was WAY better as it's done by disc speeds and drop point onto the disc I now have an Amazone and it's pretty good at headlands but I'd say kuhn has a slightly better rate control but will strip steep ground but if you've a kuhn already you'd be fine

what method of border control is on the axis?

Just adjust settings?

Open it up a bit and will throw it further.

There are 2 settings in app for border limiter settings. Limited and full border which are you using?

We have same spreader, same discs, same width and don't have same issues.

I possibly could get it set better. It manages to throw quite a bit past the edge the way it is set just now (24m spreading)

I never notice it much in spring crops that have had a chunk of fert down the spout. Very noticeable in winter wheat where it is al broadcast. Thicker near tramline and then tailing off at outside 6m.

Kuhn axis H emc at 28m this last season has been absolutely spot on for border spreading as well as mid field. Very even crops including plenty of banks in various directions from tramlines. Very pleased with the change ,after many years using a Kuhn 1131 with border telemat .

Out of interest do kuhn have anything for compensation for slopes to stop striping ?
I had an axis and an axera both striped steep ground badly . I asked the rep but he never answered me yet that was the reason we went to kv then onto Amazone with the fancy sensors that watch the spread pattern

I'm really impressed with the headland spread on my KRM m2w. It looks very heath Robinson the way you have to reverse the discs and reduce rpm but the pattern has a very sharp drop off at the edge near the boarder and by watching where the prills are dropping you can vary rpm to get it right to the edge with out chucking it where it shouldn't be going.
50 pro rpm with alter the spread by 1m, most headland spread settings state 450rpm.

Apart from the variable drop point I’m not aware of anything specific. The emc system opens and closes the aperture to maintain the desired application rate. Up and down slopes, as well as cross slopes didn’t affect pattern of spread . My crops were even compared to the old spreader which wasn’t bad to be fair. I think some of that striping was down to losing revs with pto drive. Hydraulic disc doesn’t lose speed going up steep banks. Pleasure to use this year, once I got my head round the isobus.:)

The axis and axera both spread narrow going uphill and wide coming back down I have about 100 acres I had to do at half rate twice in opposite directions with the kuhn to get them evened up but only if it wasn't making a mess travelling. Then went onto kv and it's spread pattern will be unbeatable as long as it's tray tested but a big fall out with the dealer sent us onto the Amazone which is a good spreader but I'm still a bit unsure of it as it was very late I'm being delivered last spring .

Is that hydraulic disc drive? Does it just slow the disc for borders with no deflector?

Yes, it’s hydraulic drive and the border control is via disc speed. It worked much better than the deflector, especially on corners where the deflector on the old spreader would arc it into the field or over the border, depending on the corner. With plenty of neighbouring gardens it was becoming more of an issue. The fertiliser rate is also reduced via the screen so you can change the volume applied on the border side. It can be set by pressing a button to change border spreading from left or right disc to enable you to drive either way round the headland too.
