Fertliser spend per year

1st dose will be 125kg N&S, 2nd dose will be between 185/200kg N and a 3rd dose will be somewhere between 100/150kg depending on crop
Sorry either I miss wrote my original post or your miss understand it. You would be putting on 125-200KG of product not of Nitrogen, a bag of Nitram (or such like) is only 34.5% Nitrogen. When you apply 200KG/ha of Nitram you are applying 70Kg/ha of Nitrogen The N content of an N+S fertiliser like Double Top is 27% N so 125KG of Double Top would be equal to about 34Kg of Nitrogen

so your saying 220 units/ha?, suppose different people work in different figures, atleast we've moved on from 3or4bags to the acre
Yes that would be it. As you will be aware 125kg of a typical N+S product contains less Nitrogen than 125kg of something like Nitram One contains 27% N whilst the other 34.5%N hence if you want to calculate how much total Nitrogen you have applied you need to add up the units applied not the weight of product applied.

I get a contractor in to do mine - all bells and whistles machine. Probably costs me £7 acre per year generally.

I could do it myself with a cheaper machine but I think the gain in accuracy and the fact you get an extra man and machine makes it well worth it
£7/acre. /year?
I do maybe 5 or 6 passes per year, how many are you doing? I'd definitely let someone else do it for little more than a pound an acre each pass.

I change £11ha for contract spreading, customers usually have 2-3 pass. One for K then two lots of N. Personally I couldn’t make that pay but they keep asking me back.

Yes. I probably average 2.5-3 passes per year per acre all in though. Most of my p and k comes from fym and my 80% of lime comes from bigger spreader. So its mainly Urea and a little bit of p and k/ bagged lime. Winter wheat maybe 3 times, barley twice, spring barley once etc. Beans not at all maybe. Its well worth it - for me the best thing about it is you get the man, the tractor and the machine - one actuator on a kuhn costs £700 I understand.

I charge £12.50 ha, for spraying and spreading, but it's only odds n sods, 5 ha here n there.
Often less. Still not really worth doing.

So about £3 / acre/pass?
Very cheap.

Think we did around 500ha of contact spreading last year, usually falls in between our own spreading so not a bad job.
I'm only doing little bits for my neighbours, they can't justify any kit on just 30 acres arable all in.
There's always little bits of barley, peas and oats.
None of which I grow, so often have to charge for all clear extra and cleaning out.

It’s much easier when the customers just parks a wagon full of fert and a telehandler in a 70ac field, you can soon get some spreading done when your not running about.
I’ve also found the accuracy of having weigh cells means you do very little/no cleaning out between different compounds. Once round the field and you know exactly how big it is and what’s left to spread down to the last kg.

Thats the winner for the weigh cell machines & auto on/off is the other
Vari Rate is a bonus feature on top really
Section control is the other clever fert saving option.
Does it all justify the extra outlay, over time id say so. Its not a pay back in one year thats for sure job.
just starting 6th season with mine now & id deffo not go back to guessing on/offs & over spreading
so worth every penny

I’ve said it many times, you can’t put a price on operator comfort and usability. It’s worth it for time saved if nothing else.
