Family member fitted a 2nd hand rapid exit , cost of removal and rebuild was over double the purchase price, plus some meters didn't work after the move , think saving was 25% over new, but life span will be shorter than new.

It all depends how hands on you are in the 1st place and whether you have the time to do it.

I built my 1st 12/24 in 2002 five years later I added 12 machines,2014 I started from scratch and built a 32/64 (a mixture of new and 2nd hand) wiring up the milk meters took the most time, never employing an electrician, plumber or parlour engineer has saved me a fortune over the years, only downside is if anything fails I'm the only one to sort it.

I now work for a firm that does this, and can start to appreciate how much work is involved in such a job. Only done pipe route changes and the like so far but the thought of a scratch install (especially of second hand equipment), does fill me with fear 😄

Our parlour was secondhand with new stallwork. I would never do it again. Missing bits, fitters and seller arguing. Lots of teething troubles. Maybe saved 25k on a half a mil project🙈.
Go cheap new basic, and maybe upgrade later

I bought a virtually new 8/16 for the milk meters and gates,it sat in a container for nearly five years, everything worked fine and nothing missing but I took it out so I knew everything was there.

Biggest gains with fast exit are shorter pit and faster exit, slower to fill, more room needed, more area to wash, poor cow visibility (for the milker) are the downside.

Can't go too wrong with used stainless
New basic pulsation is cheap and reliable
New stall work will come with plans and dimensions to install easily
I did 90% of the ground works on my new parlour which was a big saving

I love the concept of a rapid exit, but there are reasons they aren't the most common design
