Flea Beetle 2019

Same here. I sprayed last week hoping to hold the beetle back until the rain arrives over the weekend and after the rain I was finding sometimes 3 per plant pre rain it was one 1 per plant.
Some round here sound like they may have a false sense of security with this rain. Expecting some crops to be finished this week.

That's fine in isolation, but CSFB fly in swarms from further away. One grower not using insecticides who is surrounded by those who use them a lot doesn't really stand much chance.
That says a lot about our industry sadly, why would ANYBODY use them a lot, I put that down to general ignorance about what we are trying to achieve, Bloody Brain Washed!!!!

I always thought rain is as good at stopping flea beetle as spraying them is. Turns out it isn’t stopping them at all; was out till 2.30 this morning on the later drilled stuff. It was the highest pressure I’ve ever seen. 7 beetles per plant. Did anyone else notice this increase in numbers the last couple of days?
Rain is as good......

Had some torrential rain earlier today that you would have thought would have drowned the little buggers-or at least washed them away! looking this afternoon, could still see loads of them in bottom of the crop and the plants (2 true leaves) are being shredded-despite spraying for a 3rd time earlier in the week. Think it is going to be the first time I have had to write a complete crop off.

Well we’ve had vile weather here today - strong winds and some torrential rain - and they seem to thrive in it. Photo taken this evening.

Larvae?? You forgot them
You might need to go off piste. Garlic/aspirin mix does Leatherjackets, nematodes and slugs. End Sept timing for egg laying for CSFB to take them out before infesting the stems. However not enough feedback to be definitive. I use 1.0ltr/ha on LJ's very effectively however not many forum users post results. Those that use it against CSFB use from 0.8ltr/ha to 1.2ltr/ha or 0.8ltr twice. (£20/ltr) You guys with the mega problem are 300 miles+ from me so not easy to say the least to monitor timings and effect.
Maybe @Brisel would like to try if he has a big enough problem and would most certainly post be it + or -.

All a write off now. The heavy rain hasn't stopped them. Yes there are parts of the field which are not so badly affected but not enough to justify saving it.

The stubble turnips are out of danger but I am sure growth is being checked by major beetle grazing.

Never mind, onwards and upwards.

Late drilling and dry weather didn't help at all, nor did broadcasting and rolling into unconsolidated soil behind a stubble cultivator. If I ever try again it will be drilled (with a proper drill) early into a properly consolidated seedbed or straw free stubbles.

Lessons learned.

I let a burning bale get a bit out of control in our barley stubble, it had a good clean burn in strips down the field, the bits with no straw are worst for csfb

Need to get back in mine again, while I've still got a crop, not much chance with weather like this, absolutely appalling.

Might drown the little buggers.

Same here was out spraying also, couldn't believe how many there were, fighting a losing battle at the min, don't think we are far from you so maybe we are in a hotspot for them.

My plants were getting two true leaves in the last 5 days when we seemed to have an influx of beetles which finished the job off.

Now it's getting too wet to do anything on the land. Never known a year like it.

Last year the stuff direct drilled into stubble where the straw was baled off was fine. Maybe they didn't like the carpet of barley awns.
The stuff on trash free but cloddy cultivated ground right next to it was decimated.

This year we stubble cultivated and sprinkled onleaving a fair bit of chopped straw around but it was all decimated.
