I see on the news they have finally seen sense! But why has it taken so long?
Where is the EA?
Sitting in their vans with hi vis on no doubt.

rescuing fish in some other river somewhere, a bit of sense in Mail for a change http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...nbury-boss-Somerset-farmer-Michael-Eavis.html

I know the rain has been a pain for us up here, we have had about 2 days since xmas when it has not rained, but to have had to cope with the scale of this like these folk have, cant imagine.

more from the mail ...points out how politicised the EA are http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/a...hove-left-Somerset-neighbours-10ft-water.html

you only need to watch countryfile for a few minutes to see how entrenched that kind of view has become

If you do not already hold the EA exemptions for cleaning your waterways then I urge you to go on the EA website and apply for the exemptions D1, T5, and U10 its totally free and might just send the message that farmers are willing to be proactive in clearing the waterways.
After being flooded out twice I went to the EA with a proposed surge pond solution which since completion has been successful but does require dredging every year to remain effective.

To make matters even worse the EA are spending approx 20 million flooding good farmland. for the birds where the R Parrot goes into the Bristol channel about 2 miles from the floods, they then say that they cannot afford 4 million a year for dredging the rivers. what priorities!!!!

On a serious note though my heart goes out to those guys up there, it can get to anyone rain day after day but to get up to that in the morning must just be devastating.

Was on Question time (Sunday early evening repeat of Thursday's programme). It was said Somerset levels are below sea level, is that true?

EA does seem to deny logic. The Fens & I presume the Somerset levels were drained by Dutchmen who straigted & deeped the rivers & dykes. Scary thing is the nutters who created this mess don't think they are wrong. Like drunks in a bar wanting another drink, they think the answer is more flooding up stream in the hills.

I understand that the fen drainage systems are still run by local drainage boards but responsibility for maintaining the systems on the levels is up to the EA. Both low lying below high tide sea levels one floods the other doesn't!!!!
