Fluke

What do you do to treat for fluke in your flock of sheep and also in the cattle? Reason I ask is today I was at an on farm discussion group with a vet from our vets there discussing fluke and where and why it gets around and during the questions given to him he was asked how often and what to use when fluking sheep, he suggested doing sheep 4 or even 5 times a year, once in mid summer (around weaning time), at tup time, christmas, at scanning then in early spring (post lambing). The reason for the mid summer one was to prevent the build up of fluke eggs on the ground as autumn comes on so as not to get the fluke into the youngstock. He also suggested it might be an idea to do the cows at a similar time as they can hold more mature fluke than sheep so will spread more eggs to the ground to make a bigger problem.
What do you do about it?

On store lambs last year I used combinex then did them after Christmas with flukeiver.

Cows did them with combinex then did milk cows with duvistome, this year I'm doing the milkers at drying off with trodax.

do cattle 6 weeks after housing and all new bought cattle before turnout, will try and do ewes asap then in dec if weather stays ok! last year went every 6 weeks October November and January but that was exceptional I hope; have to admit found fluke in 14week old lambs this year but albendazole seems to have cleared that up

He brought some lamb livers along too, just killed on Tuesday but were all condemned by the slaughter house because they were suffering from cronic fluke damage, he sliced them up and quite a few mature fluke were being found as well as the damage around from the imature fluke.
