Fluke

Is there any coming back for thin flukey ewes?
Flicked them all 5 weeks last Friday at scanning, there’s a few poor looking ones but they are up and eating
Had two gelds go to nothing then as is usual after throwing the whole armoury of meds at them they die

On the whole they are looking ok bar the few skinny ones
I noticed this time we had some that died with fluke even though they had been dosed it happened in the beginning of December they were dosed in early November they we’re definitely done because we mark them all
Maybe I was too late just lost 2 or 3 but think we left them a bit long

I wonder sometimes, what if and maybe!
It was horrible and wet this backend maybe I should have dosed them earlier…
Can only try to do our best

I think I should have dosed sooner yes. It pee'd down from September and everything was full of worms and probably fluke. We are never done dosing stuff here it’s all year round never done with it

I may be asking for huge problems but....

I'm fluke dosing (and Bravoxin injecting) my ewes currently. This is the first fluke dose this winter - their last dose being 12 months ago.

2 consecutive very dry summers and exceptionally fit ewes pre tupping in the autumn I held off dosing - aiming to go in at November/December... Ewes still on big fettle then, so i decided to leave them due to withdrawals getting in the way of culling any empties at scanning.

I probably should have dosed them a month ago, but they are in for pre lambing jags so doing them now - I wouldn't chance the stress of lambing without giving them a clear out.

I've lost 1 ewe this winter so far, and she was a prolapse, last week.

Most years we need to dose 2-3 times to keep on top of Fluke and we have no known resistance issues.

It’s been a funny year for sheep, very dry then cold and frosty , just when I thought it’s a good do , it rained ..,, and rained …
Kept our earlier ewes in at scanning as it was like liquid mud outside, our moor sheep look very well but they have more to go at

In 2011 or 12 can’t remember which one we had ewes with fluke in September. They went lean after shearing it never stopped raining so we wondered if it was fluke dosed them and they came round immediately. Other years it can be wet just the same and they are fine. Bad to judge it. I definitely think they have had fluke early this backend here earlier than normal
