Fly control in cattle

What products do people rate for fly control? Spot on, fly pour, swish?

What about fly tags, are they worth the hassle?

Just had the vet out to a beast with an abscess on its eye.

flectron certainly effective as they kill the fly, garlic to my mind is a joke as it fails to decrease the population.

That is the nub.
For the best results, fly control pourons need using before you ever see any flies.
Well. Thats what my supplier tells me anyways. And I have no reason to doubt his words of wisdom, as he has been on the courses to be allowed to prescribe products.

We use spot on. Start early and do it when it needs to be done not a week late because you think your saving a few quid. We also now use tar on teats at drying off after @multi power's recommendation

One of our bulls used to be bothered with flies every year on his back.

Vet recommended Jeyes fluid, can't remember the dilution but it worked a treat!

Handy for a couple of beasts but not so for large numbers

if you just wished to help that beast, I wonder if one of those head nets like horse folk use would give it peace

We use spot on on everything that's easy to dose, I don't skimp either, 3-4 weeks between doses

Cattle at grass away from the farm get Flectron

IMO spot on is best

I used Spot on and it worked well, put an end to the hiding in bushes and kicking at flies. I might try Flectron in the future.

Another beast got the New Forest eye but a good dose of Engamycin cleaned it up before it turned to an abscess.
