Fodder Beet Price.

Yes I do see that. The thing is, I rang the contractor on Monday and he’s here today lifting 20 acres with his ‘smaller’ Agrifac tricycle machine.

But I always enjoyed beet harvesting and do miss it a bit, if I wipe the wet days and the breakdowns from my mind! Wonder what they’d want for this?! 😂 https://www.agriaffaires.co.uk/used/beet-growing-equipment/42704236/thyregod-t7.html
Dealer our way has had a t8800(newer version of t7) ex demo in his yard for a few years and it started at 100k and last year was down to 80k

We use to run a 6 row Matrot which was a good machine and could cover some ground in a day. However once everyone stopped growing sugar beet in our area and the contract work stopped we didn’t really have the acres to cover the running costs of a self propelled machine.
Yes it was convenient to just go when we wanted but one breakdown could wipe any profit form the small acreage of beet we grow.
It’s easier to just get a contractor in now and we only have to worry about carting them back to the yard and keeping mud off the road!

The problem for them, is that a customer who can justify £80k on a trailed beet harvester is probably already growing a significant area and so will want more output than a 3 row machine can provide.

My contractor had a 2 row Tim, which worked well enough, when it worked.

He reckoned it was costing him a couple of £k in parts every year in recent years, and any parts that couldn’t be sourced from a hydraulic factor now take several weeks from the manufacturer, which isn’t much use when you’re halfway through a lifting job.

Every year we lifted our little bit there would be at least two breakdowns, with the broken bit only accessible while getting covered in mud, or by hand balling a tankful of beet out.
If he'd ever recovered an elevator chain from a Standen Solo beet he would think the Tim was heaven

light sandy loam where we grow beet as we like to lift as and whn needed. can see we are going to have to grow on stronger land in the future, but they do keep better off stronger land.' 25 to 30 + depending on moisture.
Whereabouts in the country are you? We're light land in a dry pocket of south devon, struggle for moisture every year, especially this year, haven't started digging just yet but not expecting much more than low 20s to the acre, last year 35t/acre!
