Footbath Suggestions

Short winters
Good tracks so no pooling of dirty bacterial invested water and no damage to feet allowing it in.
A lime based bedding material which hardens feet and is anti bacterial.
And yes we do do some preventive footbathing about 400 L of formalin a year or 40 trips through the foot bath.
Most footbathing is done during wet weather to help keep feet hard for distance walking
We would only footbathing for a working week during winter as part of heifer training through the parlour. Plus a few days during March if the weathers dodgy during calving.

If you read my post regards copper,I had bother with foul tracking down the hoof then developing into toe necrosis,nothing to do with dermi.

A ton of copper at £1800 is buttons to me.

Glad to hear it. I would have to keep 3 extra cows to cover the cost.

Same situation here I upped the rate for a week and footbathed every day certainly knocked the digi back. Back on the 3% rate but bathing every day. Going to build a longer bath this summer so more dunks per foot currently 10ft going to 15ft but keep it narrow so doesn’t cost a fortune to fill.

Iv had a couple really aggressive cases of digital, for example sound one day swollen and chronic lame the next, a course of pharmacin cured it. Couldn’t believe how quick the foot swelled up and how lame she would go overnight

How much is an ibc of formalin? Whatever happened to the rumour of formalin being taken off the market?

Depends on haulage but typically mid £500s.

They realised how essential formalin is in the manufacture of a massive amount of products - I believe an extension of 3-5 years has been granted, although it has been banned in certain applications.
