Called the landlords agent today and forwarded him the letter. He’s on my side and thinks the council are been some what stupid.

He was going to look into it and come back to me.

Have also spoke to the relevant chap at the council who pretty much admitted something isn’t adding up at there end,

Near here a landowner was threatened with 'reinstating' a footpath according to the 'definitive map' which apparently went straight through a deep lake dug by the NRA or someone to get clay to puddle the river bank many years before the current owner acquired it. Common sense did finally prevail. Regarding the inspections, I have one cross field footpath that someone likes to complain about regularly but it crosses onto a neighbours field and he never does anything about it at all. Makes me livid.

My story of uncommon sense; when you sign up to Glastir one of the things done is for the council to go and check round all the footpaths, bridle tracks etc and then you have to upgrade stiles and gates under the Capital Works scheme.
There was one place where the inspector said we had not got a stile at all in the boundary with next door. Putting it there meant anyone using it would climb over and then slide down a 10 foot cliff into the boundary stream. 15 yards upstream was the gate and bridge which has been used for fp access since time immoral. Neighbour who is in his 70s and born there says the bridge and gate has been there since he can remember. Between us we decided that we would put the stile in and get paid for it and then carry on using the bridge and gate. The fp markers on his land point to the bridge and were placed there by the council.

Our local footpath officer is a bit of a d***, a couple of years ago he collared me one day when he was inspecting footpaths to tell me he was unable to open one of the gates and if it was not sorted he would be taking serious action ! I got him to show me the offending item, got to the gate and it was on a replacement fence line done the previous week, brand new gate and he couldn't work the drop catch ! Funnily enough he never apologized !
