Planning to AI/Flush our ewes mid September and was thinking of giving them the footvax vaccine to eliminate some foot problems over the winter. When would be the best time to give this to save affecting the hold rate of the ewes/recips? Cheers
I jab most of mine 3-4 weeks pre tupping but there will be 50 which are pregnant when they receive it, never had a problem in the past - have you had a quote for Footvax?
We do ours 2-3 weeks before rams go in. I don't like the vaccine as it creates a reaction/ lump/ abscess on the injection site. Ewes look quite affected, almost fever-like 24 hours after vaccination but seem to pick up. Despite my dislike for it, it does work well and we have overcome most foot problems now
Horrible vaccine to inject and use. I tried it once but never again why would you spend time and money on buying and giving a vaccine to cover up poor genetics that shouldn't be in the flock in the first place. Hard culling and better recording would be a much better use of your time, we are a very wet farm as well
