Good morning all,
I was wondering if i could get some advice on a problem im having with a 1994 fprd 6410. The problem is the gearbox. The stupid thing wont do anything in 3rd or 4th gear. 1st and 2nd is fine.
I have had the top cover off and everything seems to be working and engaging as it should. Has anyone had the same problem? Im scratching my head on this one

if it has the gear levers on the floor at your right knee it could be worn bushes on the linkage under the cab. but you say every thing seems to be engaging ok so maybe not that.

Our 7810 with super Q cab did the same and one of the selectors had fell off of the inside of the gear box top cover

Assuming the linkage etc is completely ruled out, could you drop the oil in the box so you can see what's going on in there? Perhaps something like the bolt holding the selector fork on the rail has worked its way out? Only surmising though- there's not a great deal to go wrong in those boxes.

It would be of help knowing what transmission you have as depending on cab a column change or floor change and with or without dual/power, if floor and no drive in 3/4 then you will also have no 7/8, is it the same in reverse.

It cannot be a 4 spd if you have 2 gear levers 1 will be main gear lever 1-4-R the other high/low, with or without dual power which would give you double the gear's 8x2 constant mesh or 8x4 synchromesh, if you have checked linkage and had top off box then it will mean stripping box, if synchromesh it will be front lower shaft synchronizer broken,
