And Muir Hill.....which was the better of the two.
We thought the 'County' name was derived from the need to enter the next county to turn them around.

to me the county looks a better idea with the longer wheelbase for stability n also the 2 prop shafts, im guessing rear diff lock locks all 4 wheels?
i have never driven either

MH was a better tractor IMO, lot less power loss through the drop box, didn't chew up the diffs because of it, better steering lock, still had diff lock front and rear, could disconnect 4wd...

Exactly, and you didn't get covered in mud climbing up into a MH rather than between the wheels of a 754. And if the door wasn't shut it swung forward and the wheel threw it off. Them big Ford 9700 and later TW's though were proper tractors.

I have spent plenty of time on both a Muir Hill 121 mk3 and a County 1454 on the same farm.
Muir hill.... Suprisingly manuvarable for such a phisicaly large tractor.... bloody terible on the road or farm tracks. The very high center of gravity and short wheel base made it a nodding, bucking horror and you had to be cautious on hills.
County ...does indeed need a whole county to turn around in. Noisy cab with not enough opening windows in summer. Will find traction and pull anything you could possably attach to the back.

I would love to try/own a 9700 or TW.
