Seems very unfair to me that the Tories actively encouraged Cuadrilla to explore the potential shale gas fields in Lancashire only to pull the rug because it’s politically expedient to do so now

This government also encouraged Wind Turbine and PV manufacturers to invest in UK facilities and then screwed them over as well,

There are many half completed wind and solar projects with full PP and with grid connections in place and paid for which were sacrificed on the holy Altar of Fracking in January 2015.

Tory Party is alike a cornered rat - totally impossible to predict other than it will do anything to survive. Fracking is taking place in the north - the northern Leave constituencies are target and this is the result. Johnson and co will promise anything to anybody who it a Leave voter in the next five weeks. Hey ho. Dirty business politics.

Hmmmm.... so import LNG from Saudi then ?
If you're referring to my post in another thread about ordering some GTL...well if it came to that we could always set up our own GTL plants to process the LNG that is already produced from North Sea fields or piped into the country. Almost 40% of our oil and gas imports are from Norway, a relatively small amount actually comes from Saudi around 2.5%. The amount of LNG we ship in is relatively minor around 9% of the total.

I'm for reducing our entire dependance on oil, not necessarily substituting one source for another and certainly not from fracking.

So we can use gas in our homes where virtually 95% of the energy is displaced into the house is used to heat the home. Or we can use electricity which is the governments stated aims. This will give at max 75% efficeincy . Importing gas from the US or the middle east requires freezing it first ahuge energy impact, or we can import across the North sea. While some comes from Norway we share this with Europe and Russia has the golden key there. The only thing stopping Vladimir turning the stopcock is his need for a cash flow!
any country with the slightest concern for security would take advantage of fracking.
many have forgotten that coal mining gave the same earthquakes every day !

Nothing I have seen of heard in recent years has made me thing that out Govts have any interest in our security, be it food, energy or military/political.

They'll just drill off shore and still go under the land and no one will complain most likely?

The untapped gas will still be a resource that's part of our energy security, and, as fossil methane, will continue to be sequestered safe underground until it there are means to extract and use it ultra-efficiently without adding to unwanted CO2 into the atmosphere.

Until then, it behoves us to cut hydrocarbon and fossil gas usage right back.
