Free lander commercial instead of Polaris ranger

looking to change from a petrol to a diesel ranger but all diesel utv are stupid money. Seems to be lots of freelander commercials about for not much money! To good to be true? Any other suggestions for a vehicle to have on restricted mileage run on red diesel that would do the job of utv?

Uncle had a rav4 swb diesel for a while.
Gone back to a gator now though as he said although miles cheaper it was just not as convenient. He even ended up hiring a mule during lambing.

I've heard lots of talk about these jimnys instead of gators, but what are they like on very wet land in winter?? They must be a lot heavier and make a right mess? .

Yes heavier, but most put a set of tyres on, to suit their own needs.
Riser kits also good, but not ideal for in and out looking at sheep.

yes, hideous things to manoeuvre yourself in and out of...
That really is the advantage of the UTV, so easy to get in and out of, leave in gear, foot on gas and go, foot off and stop. I was without my kioti for a few days last week, the Land Rover is a PIA in comparison. It's just that these UTV's are silly money in comparison to decent road going vehicles considering they have no refinements and crap performance.

Hence my uncle went back to utv

Friend of mine has a Freelander, lifted it, wheel spacers, different wheels and tyres and it's gone damn near everywhere a 90 has. You gotta drive it on a bit but it's done it.

+1 for a Jimny though, another friend had one which followed a Disco 2 on massive tyres, it was the other end of the scale, just so light and nimble.

Wonder how many hours are wasted with a Gator going to the wrong side to get in :D
Engine breaking is hmmm not very good on them, back is higher than the Jimny to throw a ewe in, and the doors open the right way
Turning radius identical, ground clearance on Jimny slightly less, easily raised.

3 years ago we bought an off-road converted disco for £900. It replaced a kawasaki mule that was costing £2500-£3000 a year in repairs and finally died with a cracked head. I doubt if we have spent anything like £1000 in repairs on the disco in the 3 years and it goes anywhere on the A/T tyres. Locked it into low box and restricted engine to 2000 rpm to limit the abuse it could be given. We wont be going back.
