FREE pocket guide on farmer safety critical skills

Dear All,
I am excited to share our latest project with you all - an A6 pocket guide to farmer safety critical non-technical skills. The guide condenses our farming safety research (we are a research group from the university of Aberdeen) from the past 5 years into an easy to read format with room to make notes as you go through. The idea is that the guide will provide a useful format for sharing information on these safety critical skills, provide guidance on how to implement the skills and enable each reader to edit the guide to produce something that is specific to them and their farm.
I have ordered 250 copies of this guide for wide distribution and am happy to send a copy (or copies if you have multiple workers) to anyone who would like one - in the UK or further afield. I have also sent a pdf version to Clive to share via this forum at some point, the pdf version will also be available to download from our website for free by the weekend - but I do think this will work best as a printed version.
If you would like a copy please PM me with your postal address :)

Anyone else like a copy? I will be sending some off to NZ next week, so don't be afraid to request a copy if you don't live in the UK :)

In a way - we visited a few agricultural shows and got feedback on how farmers would prefer to view material relating to safety skills, and the answer was that rather than having multiple leaflets the preference was for something that included everything, and that was small and easy to carry around - hence pocket guide. The tractor checklist still remains a seperate element, as a tool that is specific to tractor use. In comparison the pocket guide is more general in that the skills outlined can be applied to every aspect of farming - plus of course the space for your own notes means that in the end you should get something that is specific to you, and hopefully therefore more useful :)

also - yes the skills are still the same types of skills that pilots, offshore drillers, nuclear power plant workers, surgeons etc etc use but adapted and made specific to farming :)

Don't think other Countries do or care about HSE like we do possibly???
They have their own regulatory bodies - compliance varies with US actually one of the worst (of developed countries) - they had a struggle there to impose rollover protection on tractors for example. However, regardless of regulatory body the pocket guide should be helpful for any farmer, anywhere and I am certainly happy to post it out to anyone who has an interest :)

Not really. The legal frameworks vary between them, but most developed countries are very similar in overall expectation. The UK has had a goal seeking regime since 1947, based around something called ALARP, i.e. keeping risks as low as reasonably practicable, and Europe, Far East, Australasia are broadly similar to that, in the main. The US is more prescriptive (aka “code compliance”), but has a similar tolerance to risk, on balance - this is less flexible to new technologies and hence developing countries tend to look toward the UK/ Europe for models to follow.

That's the first 250 copies posted, phew! The printers sent 15 too many, so if anyone else would like a copy dm me - my next orders start at a minimum of 50 copies per order (requested by farm organisations) so I can't use these 15 on their own :)
