Hello all,
I have been working with Kura human factors, an applied human factors organisation that typically delivers safety critical skill training to pilots and construction workers, to design a farmer specific safety critical / non-technical skills training program. Non-technical / safety critical skills encompass thinking (situation awareness, decision-making) and interaction (teamwork, communication, leadership) skills that, in combination with technical know-how, are necessary for safe and effective work practice. Training programs designed to enhance these skills are available in other high risk industries such as offshore drilling, firefighting, the police force, construction and aviation - where non-technical skills training is mandatory for all commercial pilots - and our research certainly indicates that the same skills are relevant for farmer safety as well. In addition to the new training program we have also developed FLINTS - the farmer list of non-technical skills, a behavioural marker systems designed to support development, training and assessment of these skills (and which will be freely available to everyone from mid-july).
As interest grows in our new farmer safety critical skills training program, we felt the next step would be to offer a free training taster session for all those who are keen to find out more. With this in mind the ideal timing for such a session seemed to be the upcoming #FarmSafetyWeek (organised by our friends at Yellow Wellies)!
The free, online, session will include a brief overview of our farming research, including insight into the development of FLINTS the new farmer behavioural marker system, outlining the key farmer non-technical / safety critical skills. This will be followed by a live training taster, with a focus on #SituationAwareness. This session is open to all - whether you are a farmer, a member of a farming organisation, or just interested in learning more about how we are planning to deliver this training for farmers.
Sign up for your free ticket to the event here: https://lnkd.in/d3kZrJP I hope to see some of you there!
