Freeze branding own cattle

Hello all,
I’m considering freeze branding the family stock of cows in the future. They are sucklers and I’d hoped to obtain freeze branding irons and equipment to do it myself. It seems like there might be a lot of expense to get a set of freeze branding irons - does anyone know of any lying about or a good way to obtain them?

Shouldn't be too hard to make set if their that expensive.

Freeze branding has a high learning curve. Do a lot of reading and videos online before investing in ''irons''. They play a huge role in the results, depending on the cooling agent that you use.

It would help to have some videos, will look out for some material to read on it as well.

What's your location. You may find it much better to link up with someone nearby who is having some done at same time. How many cows have you to do?

Many variables come into play. This is a process that you have to be very meticulous with the details. If you make a mistake and blotch the brand, there is no way to redo or cover up. When it works it is a very good system on dark haired animals. The brand can be used to identify from quite a distance.

I’m in North Ayrshire, did used to get a professional in several years ago. Now we are just using management tags for our 60 or so cows. They’re quite convenient, but less fail-safe than a freeze brand.

Yeah I saw a video on YouTube of a someone doing it, looked fairly easy, but heavily dependent on the animal temperament I’d assume
