Fresh semen

Seen a report about cogent offering I think it’s 4 bulls as fresh semen rather than frozen. Supposed to be higher conception rate than the 4m but have to be used within 48 hours of delivery which limits it use to sync jobs really. Anyway anyone tried it or willing to?

No nominated is frozen as is all beef.

We've done various trials with fresh semen up and down the country. Initially we've trailled it with block calvers due to the logistics involved in planning it we want to have as many viable animals as possible. Block calvers with a synch programme offer us that.

Success rate has generally been good but there have been issues and this is still a product and a method very much in its infancy.

I was lucky enough to be involved in one programme and I have to say using fresh semen was very weird - I had to fight my body into not putting the straw into thawer.l first! Out the packet, straight into the gun. It took some mental adjustment sure enough.
