Fresh Towing vehicle

As the title suggests, I’m looking for a fresh vehicle to tow the cattle trailer. My brothers little Terios is up for swapping soon before he totally destroys it and I’m thinking a second motor fit to pull the 12ft trailer wouldn’t be a bad thing.
He’s not madly keen on pick ups as they make the whole rig so damn long. But he might just have to put up with it. Also prefers to drive automatic nowadays (snob) .
Does anyone have any suggestions for a vehicle that can legally tow the cattle trailer (3.5t) yet not have a massive wheelbase.

suggestions of a Defender 90 won’t be accepted, I want it to work everyday, not spend half its life being rebuilt and the other half trying to shake us to bits! 😉 we’ve served our time in Landrovers and don’t wish to go back there!

Not sure on towing capacity but I used too have a short wheel based Mitsubishi shogun auto and it was a right beast really pulled well and didn’t get thrown about either, a lot more practical day to day but did drink a fair bit
I really like the look of those. Still small enough that he can blast about everywhere in it. But the legal towing cap. Is only 2800kg 😔

So your calling your brother staff, good luck with that!
It’s one of the nicer things I call him at times! Especially if he brings a tractor back missing a window or something else stupid! I’ll drive on most banks around here but he’s fearless! 😰 he spreads ALONG our steeped slopes. I wince to watch him do it!

If I didn't have a p/u I'd look at a Landcruiser commercial

Also far to posh for the rough bugger. But cheers

It doesn’t have be new does it?😲

Those Mercs go on forever and are quite cheap to buy with a bit of age about them as folk get scared by the repair costs. Get a lot of spec (& comfort) for your money.👍
A friend of mine has had one for the last 4 years, when it cost him less than £1000. You certainly wouldn’t know that to look at it though.

swb landcruiser colorado , very reliable ,check around rear springs /chassis for rust on older ones, main chassis rails are usually fine ,otherwise good motors , reasonable tax (ive got a surf same running gear and engine)
I was also looking at the touareg when i change , looks a good modern tow car

Local sheep farmer (middlefarm 4x4) sells no trills trucks. Got some on the low miles and look good value. Buys a lot of mod or utility company truck so we’ll serviced. If you looking for a hi Lux I would try him.
Yes I’ve looked at them my mate gets them usually a lot cheaper up to 10k less than a similar top speck one.
Im in need of a new second hand Hilux was thinking about a 2.4 but local garage who does a fair bit for us reckons the 3.0 would be better for the amount of towing we do

I’m going to go for second hand hilux next. My mate who is a rough as f**k with kit always runs them and do well for him.
