Fusarium in Extase

Has anyone else found significant amounts of upright, dark or pinky ears in Extase? When I saw it in a field following maize I wasn't overly surprised. Now I've been harvesting it following spring oats and its even worse! Never seen it so bad. It had a decent t3 of teb + azoxy. Haven't seen it in other varieties but they were following different break crops.

Find the 2021 thread on TFF about problems in Extase. Might be helpful to you. I have no idea how to search on TFF others will help you. I have been wary of the variety since.

Tap the question mark top right of screen and type in " extase potential problem " then tap the surch bar underneath.
I've still got the photos of mine i took after being contacted by the breader, why anyone would read that thread and still grow it is beyond me, as I stated back the it cost me nearly 30k in lost income and seemed to be cutting just straw sometimes.

Because it’s a unicorn variety that stands out against so many other ‘vanilla’ options.
I get that there are potential issues with it, but it certainly has a place on many farms because of its earliness, yield potential, standing, cleanliness (debatable), potential for gp1 premium and suitability as an entry for OSR.
That said, unlike some varieties over the last 30 years, I wouldn’t put more than half my wheat acreage down to it, but likewise it’s far too good to drop.

Half you acreage would be suicide, And if I remember correctly don't you multiple seed for the breader ? so far from impartial

Nope, never grown a seed crop for anyone else in my life.
And at the risk of sounding cocky, the field of Extase we started yesterday is hovering either side of 4t on the yield meter, and it’s a 3rd wheat.
Last year I had a 2nd wheat field of Extase average 4.6t over the weighbridge, and that field looks very even again this year.
If that’s risky then I rather like the odds.

Not cut any yet (may have a go over the weekend) but Extase looks pretty clean here. I did give it an extra splash of teb late on though with it being so wet at the time.

No your not being cocky. You are saying it as you see it. Which is entirely understandable. I witnessed in 2021 a few crops of Extase that exhibited quite unusual symptoms as they approached harvest. Representatives of the breeder inspected the crops. The reason put out by the breeder was late use of Sulphonyl Urea herbicides and complicated spray mixtures with growth regulators. As with many things in life all is well until it is not well. And appreciation of others misadventures only comes with ones own misadventure. Extase has and I consider will continue to be a hugely successful variety. But for some of us we have seen a darker side to the variety. May you harvest and future harvests be exceptional PSQ. Best wishes.

This year, Extase has been the best yielding variety on a field basis but also the worst! Mayflower hasn’t really impressed due to some flat areas, but it’s been more consistent.
