Game cover maize

On one of our contract farms I have the unenviable job of establishing 22ha of game cover maize. The keeper has historically asked for this to be ploughed, I get a contractor to do this as I don’t own a plough!
Now that I have a Claydon drill in the armoury I have to ask, has anyone drilled maize into maize stubble?

I think the maize would take better if a pass with a carrier or a tined cultivater did a pass to warm the soil before the drill went in

Done similar with a sprinter & dutch openers, after a pass with joker to smash previous residue up, that’s most of the problem getting it through the drill!
Some bits came great & others weren’t so good - esp heavy wet bits (where covers generally are!)!
On that scale I’d guess it’s a reasonable size commercial shoot so decent covers are everything- id plough etc to be safe & save the hassle of a grumpy keeper...!!
Most importantly crop of the year.....!!
Cheers dh

Depends on the soil type and how early they want it drilled if it is heavy the plough
we do not grow maize for game here
micotoxins in wheat go through the roof with maize nearby
it breeds badgers and is crap in a dull cool summer falls over in December
