We use for cattle and have for last 6-7 years, some years they pile into them others not so much, still get flies but we believe we get lot less and feel the cattle come back in in the winter all the better for extra minerals they get. New forest eye is much less common since we have used the buckets, still get odd one.

I think they work, use the Nutrilick ones - strathclyde nutrition.
Multi stock, and they are not sweet, quite salty, and very garlicky - horse and sheep both lick away at them, and they dont melt away in the rain. Stock dont go mad at them.
Got another variety one year, and they were sweetish - didnt last very long, and gave them all the squits (n)

Was reading on a horsey forum and they were saying that it also keeps the dung beetles etc away so dung takes longer to break down than non-garlicked. Not saying they're right, but that's what some were saying.
