General Election

Well my wife is in tomorrow morning at six and I shall not see here again until at least three next morning. Having listened to her over several elections she and her colleagues manning the polling stations, and counting the votes have not the time nor the inclination to actually bother let alone attempt to marry individuals names with where their X went on the ballot paper.

I have posted on other threads that have touched this subject that the more I l think about it the low tech X with HB pencil on a piece of paper in a box counted by hundreds of ordinary folk is the securest way of maintaining a non rigged vote. If you are unhappy get you daughter / son grandkids to put name down with local council as helpers - always looking for them. Pay is OK.

I dread the day it becomes electronic - then it will be rigged and data picked over.

Lord Sugar (of whom I'm not the greatest fan) tweeted to recommend Not voting for Corbyn - remember he was made a peer by Gordon Brown.

Cue the massed ranks of Social Media Corbyista attack squads.
They accused him of being a tax evader who only looks out for himself, so he posted a photo of his latest cheque to HM Revenue.

I could draw up a cheque like that and take a picture of it.
Doubt I'd post it off though.

The first few pages of this thread make interesting reading. What was TM thinking and a whole lot of forum members thought she was wise to call a GE :scratchhead:

It was a pity her policies were a bit random and caused dissent, and that, in the likelihood of having to actually perform, she couldn't put expensive items on her wish-list like Corbyn.

Corbyn made an unexpectedly good show, though, and didn't come across as the wild and wacky character that half his own party believe him to be, even if half his schemes are unworkable in real life.

Calling the election was a good idea - a very brave idea - but it just didn't quite come off. But at least she has been elected and cannot have the "unelected" gibe thrown at her, especially up here in Scotland.

Well - the Tories still won. Looking at the headlines this morning - printed last night I suppose - there was a point where the media expected them to lose; so everything sounds a lot more negative this morning than it actually is. I'm not sure it's really that bad; the SNP's rebellion against Brexit was a real issue but that has been knocked back by these results.

I believe our re-elected SNP member won by 21 votes from Conservative with over 40,000 voting. 21 votes! Proof that your vote can make a difference.

Not sure if I vote Tory again myself
