Genuine farm sale of machinery

Recently bought a Krone mower out of a genuine farm sale. Went to farm spoke with owner while loading and brought it home. Went to fire it up making a terrible racket. Was missing 9 conditioner tines so got them put them in as I hoped she was just unbalanced. Still running bad. Anyway teeth stripped on bed cogs is what was causing the noise. Rang farmer who maintained it was working perfectly for him. This guy is 78 and was quitting farming. I am definitely losing faith in the human race. I would have expected this at a blind collective sale but not at a farm sale. Any similar experiences?

Was it advertised by the auctioneer as “in good working order” if so get on to them as I’m pretty sure if that’s what they’ve advertised it as in to book that’s what you are bidding for. “Sold as seen” is a different ball game and you’re out of luck.

Surely buying anything from auction you have to accept it may not be 100%?

Or atleast seccond hand from a dealer where it’s been through or you have some comeback to get repairs done. Private sale such as Facebook or even auctions it’s sold as seen buyer beware I’m afraid.

On the bright side, Krone disc hub units are not too dear, compared to some brands.

That is debatable the way some dealers have behaved. Few threads on here about such chancers!

my dad was getting worse with machinery in his early 60's his brother was and still is a destructive force best not let onto any machine, at 78 i imagine it is possible that he was clueless!

Traded in a trailed conditioner mower was in good working condition, had sat in dealers until next season went out to a demo to sell to another producer, 20 acres and well gear in bed failed. It happens.

At 78 he probably thought it sounded just like that old kidd clipper he had when he was a boy so it must be right as rain
