More sheep!! we are discussion finding solutions not creating more problems

There’s no better way to reduce fixed costs or capital investment though.
Grass it all down, take 50ac out a year to put forage crops in ahead of a reseed, then run 1500 ewes with very low fixed costs?

Traditionally called "Dog and Stick" farming for a reason.
I can see us going back that way here, with a nod to the brave new world we are heading into with a dollop of eco herbal cover crops, of course... ;)

On our clay soils, winter would mean housing cattle for an extended period, which would ramp up those fixed costs again.
Given the insightful knowledge imparted by George, I’ll bet against it and do the opposite I think.;) In the brave new ‘post-Brexit’ world, I’m informed lots of new markets will be opening up for sheep meat, so time to start ramping up production?

Grandfather always said to do the opposite to everyone else, I thought he was just being awkward!
