Germany lost the battle but won the war...

I seem to be on my own in this thinking but I'm proud of this Country.
Empire was a quirk of history which had a reasonably well orchestrated dismantling.
Europe would have succumbed to Nazism if it were not for the Commonwealth.
We are one of the only countries that would allow a referendum on such an important matter and although this is ridiculed by many, I believe it is a fabulous example that this is a democracy where what the populace thinks, really matters.
I am very proud that this is a nation where the majority [however small] was willing to vote for short term disruption for long term prosperity and the avoidance of becoming subservient to a centralised governing institution whose objectives would be likely to differ from our own.
We are not so much in a mess but in the midst of a somewhat confused process to avoid a huge one in the future.
The Germans are actually doing a pretty good job of running the EU. History should just warn us how it is possible for a bad faction to achieve power anywhere.

I say it again, you are imho by far the most rational Brexit supporting poster on here(y). I sometimes find myself wondering your age, if you don’t mind me asking? As it never becomes apparent :scratchhead:.
Sadly, I could of written your post some years ago and I can certainly remember proudly watching the news each night to see how we were kicking the Argies butt. But by the end of the 80’s, I felt completely different and the shame was setting in. I can’t identify exactly why but the miners strike was a big factor (my mum coming from a mining town - actually where AS had worked) and I really wish I could feel proud but England to me just lets me down again and again :(

Mark Francois, the deputy chairman of the ERG, warned the EU it would face “perfidious Albion on speed” if it tried to hold the UK “captive”.

“Let my people go,” he shouted, quoting Moses, via Boris.

The MP, who noted he read War Studies at university and reminded the room he was once a British Army officer, branded himself and other hardcore Brexiteers the “Spartan phalanx”. He then read a Tennyson poem.

"F**king idiot" if anyone on here voted for this moron have a long hard think....

"Spartan Phalanx" more like "fat arsed soundbite"

Accusing me of being jingoistic is akin to accusing a random German of being a nazi.
It says much more about you than it does

Disagree. Looks like a snake sounds like a snake then its probably a snake.

If a German had described the Nazis as a blip in history, well i will let you judge that one.

I'd rather vote for a man who quotes Tennyson than a unthinking party automaton.

How about some intelligent policy, a plan, some suggestons on building out our economy post brexit, a vision? Or will a bit of Tennyson suffice?

He has nothing beyond recycled soundbites and its plainly obvious. He/this is the problem with the ERG (whats left of them) just talking about "leaving" not "fixing"

You have a point, Kipling would be a better bet, he had a sound grasp of how societies work.
