Getting concerned

If it’s confined to near boundaries it’s more likely to be from grain aphid’s I’m told.

Thank you, I was not aware of that. I have had a look at early October sown wheat which did receive a autumn pre/peri emergence herbicide. No insecticide applied and do not intend to put one on now. I cannot see any aphids - though I am useless at finding them. My gut feeling from previous years is do not generally see much if any virus once crops sown into October - and it was pretty miserable last autumn not only for humans but aphids as well.

Finished winter wheat drilling today. Bits and pieces here and there. No field completed due to boggy areas. Rotation gone to pot but “ got rid” of 8 bags of seed out of 9. As granny used to say “sow in a flood, reap a wood”.

talking to a CSF chap today, telling me, why they couldn't dredge the rines on the somerset levels, all they could do was shape the sides. why ? the river is tidal to langport, and if they dredged the bottom of the river, at high tide, there would be sea water in the river bottom, WTF planet are these idiots from ? That's been happening since the levels were drained, and, of course, the silt is a dangerous waste, and has to be desposed of. understand the farmers being paid to take this waste, are highly pleased to improve their soil, and get paid !!!!!!

I used the old Moore unidrill and a light tractor, which at the moment is the system of least mess, risk and expense. Couldn’t touch the heavy land due to general sinkage lotting and stickiness but the light land travelled alright and it went in ok if rather wet. Last piece was after the lambs on stubble turnips. Went straight on.

I really don’t how it will turn out but it’s the absolute deadline here for winter wheat now.

Quite a lot of drills running around Holderness East York’s. Some a bit tackier than others, no dust! Ours is still too wet!
