Got a shed away from the farm and it would be handy to have electric in it. There is an overhead line 11000 volts ??? and a pole about 10 metres away that passes through our land, can supplier just put a spur off this pole to us or is there more to it? and if they could what would be approx cost?

Only way is to fill in a form for your local DNO - maybe UK Power networks in your area
They will provide a quote -(after a considerable delay ) to give you a service.
Suggest you sit down when you open the quote.
They will require full payment with order, then advise you it will be 6 months before they can do the job
After that you will have the joy of dealing with an electricity supplier to install a meter & connect the supply

I don't think 'handy' will be worth the money tbh. A decent generator will look cheap compared.
Yes you’re probably right, wouldn’t have even considered it if the pole wasn’t within touching distance, I guess we’re talking more than a couple of grand?

Think cost depends on whether tapping existing 3phase supply from a pole or transformer etc from high voltage.
Wanted to upgrade our supply...relace transformer, and new lines(200m).
Quoted 22k, turned them down.
They turned up and replaced lines with higher capacity ones for free a couple of years later (2018).
There is no logic to how ukpn work!

Just had a quote for a new supply by SSE. Pole is 30m from where I want the meters. Cost of installation is £540 I will still need my supplier to install the meters.

That’s mega cheap! Cost us just over £600 in the end after starting with £1500 quotes just to move the house meter from inside to an outside cabinet in order to build an extension!!

Brother had 3phase put in on Monday he did all the digging and built the cubicle for the meter, minimum 10m away from hv pole £13.5k included the cost of a transformer.

I’ve a quote for £5k for a Single phase supply into a cubicle in a field 60m of cable from an already transformed supply,I’ve to dig in and supply cubicle.

Should add I accepted the quote on Monday and SSE have since then confirmed installation as Feb 4th (this year before you ask)

I was once told by a retired bloke that used to work for electricity north West that it all depended how busy they were not much on they would knock price down.

Christ it cost me over £10k just to upgrade the transformer, run the cable 4m into the shed and fit a new head and meter 20 years ago.

Trying to get Scottish power to finish there 3ph install , connect meter is unbelievably impossible.
1ph ,to 3ph
A mates told me the 2 tails to the consumer board will need to be dangling ready , which they aren't, Scottish power have not specified .....
From experience there is very little piont asking the Muppets that answer the switch board
If they ever rock up I'd like it to be finished

Errm If its 3 ph you need more than 2 tails ?
The power company will terminate the incoming supply in a block
Then your sparky needs an isolater with the meter tails in place
Then the meter installer will turn up & connect the meter.to the block & connect the tails
That`s the theory anyway. In practice it`s a pain !

Western power want 7k to connect me with 3 phase 45kva supply that includes transformer upgrade, problem is there’s 10 feet of fen road between there pole and my yard. That 10 feet of road is gonna cost another 5.5k to cross 2.5k of which is a road closure charge !.
I absolutely refuse to pay that as it’s way over the top a road closure is 500 quid (I know I rang highways), I could dig it duct it and back fill it myself in a morning !.
