Getting less pleasant .....

is it just me or is this place getting less pleasant?

Seems to be that a lot of the differences in opinion that occur now become a lot more heated, aggressive and borderline personal...?

I get that there will always be difference of opinion about farming systems, suitable breeds etc, but it should be a forum for discussion, not conversion or name calling.

Maybe it’s just me... but I run wool shedding ewes, use Charmoise and few other tups, lamb out, run a grass based system and sell dead.... but that’s my choice and I don’t particularly care if someone else does or thinks different. In fact I’m actuallly interested to know and discuss why?

Every farm is different and different things suit different folk.... and there’s more than one way to skin a cat!

Some folk just need to chill out!

Times aren't good

Price and availability of fodder after this summer a big worry to many

No export market or plan because the Westminster clowns aren't fit to run a bath never mind run a country

Breeding mule ewe lambs making the same at market that they did twenty years ago, yet machinery, fuel, fertiliser, seed etc etc etc all doubled, trebled, or not available because same Westminster clowns decided to pay for it to be burnt or chucked in a digester

Lack of confidence in the future too much for the mildest of tempered farmer

There's something else afoot. I assumed it was due to increased membership, but BFF has 30,000 members on it's FB page, and I don't see any of this crap on there.

They say familiarity breeds contempt, over time little disagreements can fester and resurface in other threads. It's quite often a few members who are at the root of most of the more abusive stuff, don't get involved is the answer.(even if it is tempting sometimes........ Don't do it!)

Everything now seems to be black or white with little or no middle ground. In recent years we have had a vote on Scottish independence and more recently the leave Europe fiasco.
Such votes are decisive, one way or the other and it divides us as a population which isn't at all helpful socially and or politically.

Well, I feel pretty well qualified to comment on this........

I've not been about here for a while (nigh on a year) wow have things changed........

I've jumped in and defended a well know and reasonable poster (who I've never met, pm'd or owt else) cos some young bloke had belittled his perfectly fair post,
unless I interpreted it wrongly. (Certainly not impossible )
I only looked in cos some advert's appeared on my phone to do with classifieds or selling summat!!!

Half of the Lancashire contingent have disappeared and there's a whiff that 'Summats not reet'

I blame Brexit meeself[emoji848][emoji848]

Yes i've noticed it too. A lot of threads end up in arguments. I always like to think that whatever I say on the forum I would say to someone's face but I don't think everyone has the same view. Lots of keyboard warriors who wouldn't say boo to a goose.
Yes a lot of people who wouldn't have the gut to back up their posts if they had to use those statements face to face.

The place has a lot of them.

Great to see you again @kneedeep . :)

Maybe not the thread for a major update, but how are you doing? On second thoughts, one of your excellent posts would probably help lighten the mood:)

Its much easier to vent our greviances on social media or email or indeed this forum than the telephone or face to face.
We can hide behind a facade and state often extreme opinion or views just to get a reaction.
Radio and television also promote this by allowing air time to similar extreme opinion. Its done quite deliberately to force a reaction from people who have the opposite opinion. Result is often a tirade of abuse.

They post with their own names dont they ,not hiding behind a mask .but its a shame when you cant say what you want without the risk of a public stoning
I come on here to try and be helpfull and have a laugh . I wish some would lighten up but we are not all the same and print can sometimes be taken the wrong way
