Hello all. How much do people spend digging sand out of their lagoon each year?

I have 75 sand cubicles at my heifer unit and spend approx £500 per year to bottom it. This involves a digger and a dual spreader for 1 day.

only use about 60t if sand per year! How do you guys manage who use hundreds of tons??!?

Does that empty all of it or have you already taken some out.

We tank our lagoon out probably 300 plus 2500 gallon loads.
Then 2-3 days tractor and loader plus west spreader cleaning out the bottom 2-3 foot with high sand content.

250 cows 20 tons sand a week for nearly 6 months.

The £500 is just for the sandy bit

I think if you can get in with the farm loader it saves a lot of money.

We have only done ours once so far, must have had 700 ton of sand in, then all the solids type muck in as well, only had one day because the weather stopped us but we used a 14ton digger to start then the loadall, 3 spreaders got 90% of it out.

Most round here don’t bother digging out, they just pump off the foot of water all winter that’s on top of the sand ??
Idiot's. Wonderful fertilizer that sand as it pulls alot of nutrients down into it so full of high grade black solids and saves lime.

Get a excavator in twice a year to do one lagoon, have a much bigger lagoon which is done every few years but need to get an extended reach machine in. It is all separated which helps. Use a load a week, all year housed.
