GFC was to go ahead - now not going ahead

Can you not do a ‘so many articles free’ mini subscription? I’m loathe to post it as FW has done farmers a great service in shedding light on GFC and bringing it to the attention of the wider farming community.

Will certainly be buying a paper copy this week!
I tried but failed for some reason.I share a paper copy with a brother so will read it on the weekend.

However, it might not be the final nail in the coffin for the GFC, as the statement goes on to acknowledge that Red Tractor may still have a role to play in developing “sustainability standards”, so long as it is done transparently and in consultation with the whole supply chain.

“If there is any desire to continue with the GFC, rebuilding trust should be the essential focus of RT at this moment in time.

“Whether that is done through more board positions or through better consultation is open to debate. But how the farmer’s voice is fed in and heard in Red Tractor for the future is going to be one of the key questions.”

Commenting on the latest farm union/AHDB statement, a Red Tractor spokesman said the AFS Board (including NFU and AHDB) met last Friday (1 March) to discuss the Campbell Tickell report for the first time.

“The board is considering every aspect of the report carefully,” he said. “This includes the Greener Farms Commitment, which remains on hold since October. This process is clearly a priority and will be completed properly before any decisions are taken on next steps.

To me that is very poorly put together article. It says the 5 bodies but doesn't name them. More than once says farmers unions but again no names. Mentions that NFU and AHDB sit on red tractor board. Not clear if Tom is speaking to FW personally or as president of and on behalf of NFU.

I wouldn't be getting the flags out and celebrating just yet.

I presume "the statement goes on" is the statement put out by the 5 farming unions. Seems to suggest they still want it but just to be done more openly.

I’d assumed the 5 bodies involved with AFS from a farming view point NFU, Farmers Union of Wales, NFU Scotland, Ulster Farmers Union & AHDB.
Maybe its the start of a very long road back!
