- US markets – soy higher for the 10th consecutive day on the expansion of hot, dry weather into the western corn belt. Corn higher as weather forecast remains threatening. Wheat higher on expected further declines in crop ratings, Canadian and EU weather concerns.
- NASS reported the US corn crop at 65% good/excellent condition, down 3 points on the week, with 19% of the crop silking vs 30% last year, and 27% as 5-yr average.
- NASS reported the US soybean crop at 62% good/excellent condition, down 2 points on the week, with 34% blooming vs 37% last year and 32% as 5-yr average, and 7% setting pods vs 6% last year and 5% as 5-yr average.
- NASS reported the US winter wheat crop at 67% harvested vs 65% last year and 65% as 5-yr average. Crop conditions are now no longer reported.
- NASS reported the US spring wheat crop at 35% good/excellent condition, down 2 points on the week and compared with 70% last year, with 79% of the crop seen as headed vs 89% last year and 74% as 5-yr average.
- Safras & Mercado reports Brazilian growers have already sold 67% of the 2016-17 soybean harvest, below the 82% sold at the same date a year ago, and 80% as the 5-year average.
- Egypt imported 5.58mln t of wheat in 2016-17 compared with 4.44mln t the year previous. Reported last month that imports are expected to jump to around 6.2mln t in the coming financial year.
- France is expected to harvest 36.2mln t of soft wheat in 2017, a 31% increase from last season’s poor crop despite the impact of adverse weather this spring, reported the farm ministry in its initial estimate. Pegged yield at 7.04t/ha from an area of 5.15mln ha.
