Glyphosate in with pre-ems?

I want to go drilling.

I have some big weeds (groundsel, thistles) but not many grassweeds in the seedbeds yet.

From memory you're only allowed 1.5lts of 360 post drilling.

Is gly with pre-ems a waste of time?

Thanks!

No but it’s risky/variable

I have never had problems with roundup with the pre em
if the weeds need more than 1.5 l then an earlier round up would be used
big osr and well established weeds more than 4 months May need more
any weeds that have grown since harvest will die with 1.5 litres

the label recommended rate is for crop safety but in my experience wheat up untill the first leaf has burst through the coleoptile does not get affected by glyphosate
I have only damage one headland that was just past that stage
drill a bit extra seed and get a good depth 50 mm

agronomist cannot recommend this as it is not on the label the perceived risk is much higher than the reality

No problem, you’ve got the correct rate.
I tend to leave the spraying 3 or 4 days after drilling to allow the weeds to pop back up.

Apparently coleoptiles don’t take up glyphosate, I have used glyphosate on a field of wheat showing a lot of coleoptile and had a great result. This was on a ryegrass sward that had regrown so do or die moment in between some dodgy spray weather.
That's good to know as have some barley to drill and want another kill of BG as late as possible

i would say wheat a bit more robust than barley
Yes probably but I have held off as soon as I see one plant emerge as worried about any just about to break the surface so perhaps it's not quite so worrying, we have had two kills already and reduced the seed bank a lot a small amount just coming again so a third kill is needed, hope to drill next wk

With summer plantings ( grain sorghum, cotton etc ) I’ll have seeds out of the ground within 3 days in good conditions.

plant with a double disc precision planter on 1m rows, so very little soil disturbance ( in fact it can be very hard to see what has been planted )

nearly always follow the planter with say 1 - 2 l of 450 glyphosate & pre em

never had any issues, in fact it is recommended on the chemical drum labels

Did some last year, with Pre em, because didn't think it was worth a pre drill spray pass and then got spooked by a few BG transplants. Could see odd wheat plant poking through day it got done, but was no BG in final crop.
I'd do it again no hesitation.

I have put glyphosate in with pre-ems to deal with riff-raff. I wouldn't so much as even think about it if the crop is close to emergence, not worth the risk. 2 or 3 days post-drilling is fine- you won't see cereals up in less than a week. Not entirely certain all chemicals are physically compatible with glyphosate mind if there is anything new or weird and wonderful going in the sprayer also.

I once put glyphosate in the tank with some PDM to apply to some beans because there was charlock growing in the field at the time. Fudging stuff survived!

As I said above, would only mix glyphosate with pre ems if it is on the chemical label ( legal requirement ), but very common here.

also very common to do post planting glyphosate application behind low disturbance planters

Not come across any preems that cannot be mixed
The longest I have put gyphosate after drilling is 14 days for cereals
Longer for deep drilled beans
Much better than a week or two predrilling in terms of weed controll

after 20 plus years using roundup pre drilling or prem with no sign of resistance but we do use cultural controls and other modes of action on the rotation
