Do you think there would be much demand for a breeding unit at the moment?

Massive number of variables I believe

TVC report that outside of contracts there's no demand for weaners. When that trade perks up maybe someone would want it.
I have all the kit from my unit for sale, including nearly new farrowing houses. I'm not going to bother advertising until the trade is profitable. May be some time.

There still seems strong appetite for b and b pig units, can’t see the current figures stacking up with interest rates where they are though.

I asked the head poncho about this years ago and he said do not spend for pigs its only for utilising exisiting buildings, so i built one

Back to the origin of this thread;

Strong demand for pigs this week, they have already taken next weeks from me and are wondering if I have more.

I know that demand may evapourate next week as it usually does but the last few years there hasn't been a trace of this enthusiasm for extra pigs.

Maybe the worm has rotated?

Trouble is there aren't enough alternative outlets now, they know they are going to get our pigs no matter what they pay. Why would they offer more?

They will start offering the cost of production contracts again soon..........you know the ones they pulled out of 18 months ago.

Cull sows sent 18/10/21 were 30p per kilo.
Last lot sent 24/02/23 were 125p per kilo.

Still make cheap sausages!!

Thought this was best place to ask.....we are moving, which means our pig enterprise (Rainbow) will be outdoors rather than in a barn. So, if anyone knows of a farrowing ark for sale in the SE please drop me a line. Thanks.
