Got a 24m old sands sprayer and toying with the idea of fitting gps section control it's currently got 2 sprays each with 6 sections so plan would be to put 3/4 lines with 12 sections what's the simplest system to go for
It's also currently got ez guide 250 and ez steer

We’ve got a landquip Electrac that we retro fitted Trimble’s Field IQ to. Works well and runs 12 sections although we only have 4. All controlled through a cfx750.

You’ll need to upgrade your screen as the 250 wont do section control. And unfortunately Trimble’s new GFX750 wont talk to an EzSteer, so you would be looking at an older CFX750 or a TMX2050.
Does the sprayer have a compressor? If so great, otherwise you will need to fit one and an air receiver. I fitted a 12v heavy duty compressor to my old Chaviot which worked well.
Then you’ll need a bank of pneumatic solenoids to turn the air on and off and a FieldIQ section and rate control module to control them.
Finally you’ll need to change your anti drip valves on your nozzle bodies to pneumatic ones and pipe them up.
How good are you with electronics are you and do you like a challenge?

This was my first project two years ago. Bought an old Berthoud sprayer from @ashmore with faulty rate control and decided upgrade it with trimble field iq. Since Berthoud already had pneumatic system, the was not much extra to do on sprayer itself. Had to buy 12 air shut off valves:

blocks of 3 units served me best because there was air supply lines at 4 points and smaller hoses did not need to be very long.

Then bought field iq kit including wiring loom for trailed sprayer. I decided to connect everything through relays for safety reasons. Those computers ain't cheap.

Flow meter is also needed. Do not buy one from the trimble dealer, as they charge twice the price :) at least in my case

I simply adore the sprayer, because the work is effortless: you just start and the computer does everything else for you. The set up was the tricky part, but once you finished, it pays off. Have done everything myself and this was the first time, but once you get the idea how it works, there is nothing to worry about. It saves pretty penny doing it yourself.

Hi nice project what flow meter did you use

I bought it as Dickey john, but it was made by some Italian manufacturer, which was half the price online. Wasn't happy about this. However, I don't think it does matter which flow meter you will use, you will need to calibrate it anyways.

an old ezguide 500 if you can get one and ezboom
+1 I believe you got one from the same HK crowd as me. They had another batch a month or 2 ago. I reckon section and rate control (from a standing start) cost me <£500, plus £400 for the ez500. Tinkering time uncosted ;)

Good guys at Cleveland crop sprayers sorted me out with the plumbing bits.

Sorry just noted your 12 section requirement EZBoom only supports 10.

It's a very elderly econ. I just wired the solenoid valves direct to the ez-boom. Only 3 sections so current draw isn't excessive.

Flow meter is an Arag.

My sprayer is Hardi so fitting flow control is tricky as flow is constant regardless of how many sections open.

Pressure is constant, flow drops when you close some sections ;) best part using field iq is that you set liters per hectare and forget about everything else, no nozzle info is needed

Not in a Hardi!! When a section is closed it maintains the flows and returns that sections flow to the tank separately.
