Graham winter wheat

How much disease does everyone have present in this variety at this stage? Mine seems to have lost all its lower leaves leaving just the flag leaf and the one below it and these two also have disease present. Just wondering if this is normal it's had three fungicides now.

Not a clean variety anymore imo

been going down hill for last 2-3 years

I don't think I would grow it again. I really wonder would it have looked any worse if it hadn't been sprayed at all?

It’s been a high pressure year

there is certainly a big difference between varieties, sprayer miss will certainly highlight what fungicides bring to the party

The Graham I saw in BASF trials locally looked pretty good even with a modest fungicide programme. There are dirtier varieties out there.

Timings seem to be just as important as varieties and programmes this year. Anything with a T1-T2 fungicide interval longer than 3 1/2 weeks seems to be struggling with disease.

My T1 was 21st of April and t2 20th of May. T2 was Approvia plus 0.43l, tuskar 0.7L. T1 was tuskar 0.7, floozy 0.7 thiopron 3l.

I am based in Lincolnshire, so may well be different to your area. But that fungicide programme is pretty weak. No Fenoxamid, No Metfenconazole, Only one SHDI at T2 and Approvia is a weak SHDI on Septoria and the rate of 0.43 is low.

That's good to know. I'm not very clued in on my knowledge of these chemicals so I'm just going with what I'm advised.

What area are you in please? The cocktail is not very strong in a year like this. Aprovia Plus (solatenol) is not the best septoria product, though I've used it with other products, usually mefentrifluconazole. I'm not about to condemn your agronomist as I don't know what their brief is.

N Ireland so reasonably high disease pressure I would imagine.

What is your annual rainfall? NI is a big enough place with very different microclimates. A fungicide programme in Fermanagh is going to be very different to one in Down!

There is also the strategy to consider - keep costs down or keep crops clean. The former will come unstuck in a high pressure year but the latter is expensive. The lack of curative fungicides for septoria means you won't know what was right until afterwards.

I'm not 100% sure on rainfall I think it's around 900/1000mm annually.

What products have you used on your own wheat this year?
