Wow Wow Wow if you are cutting 150 tons an hr how ever many 1000s of tons do cut in a year?
Even if you have 20 ton carts that's one awful lot of tonnage to cart anywhere and vehicle movements.
If you were to come and cut mine at least I would have 20 hrs left in the day to put it somewhere.
150t is absolute max it wouldnt be the norm

Concrete pads are the way to go and with those concrete lego blocks can cram a lot in.
If landowners not willing to put capital towards the investment maybe advise that there are other opportunities throughout the year to use the pads for storage that don't need roofs such as caravans or some cars etc

Dudes, I've got it - those mobile ice rinks for hire are in storage all summer, set one up, freeze the water (there are usually a few wintery days in July ideal to freeze it up, especially in Dorset) and tip and lift. Keep it covered with at least some grain until after harvest to keep cooling costs down.

I don't think the synthetic ice (wax I think) will do as it may contaminate the grain, but watery ones should be OK, sheet them if it rains mind. there are usually a few August downpours (especially in Dorset).

You are welcome.

Would rather put new sheds up for stuff other than grain. Cost difference of bells and whistles on farm vs second hand CS pays for many, many years of handling charges. But that’s all another debate we can have at the pub.

good idea of pj and straw pad. Judgey aswell, he’s on one of the farms.
Queens head? Ill bring my figures to show you! :p

Indeed. I'd like to see Woldgrain let us just heap up feed wheat outside and let them bucket it into the intake with a loader.

This is something we are asked about every so often.

We could easily pile up grain in the yard like some other stores do.

This would be easier with dry grain rather than wet, because our daily intake is adjusted to match our drying capacity, so that no backlog is created in the store.

The other downside is that we don't have spare labour overnight and moving 1,000mt of wheat from a heap in the yard to a pit would create a full-time job for someone. Also, for maximum efficiency we would want to use a loading shovel, which we don't have.
