Is it necessary to spread grass out after mowing if it doesn't need to dry? Does it affect the wilting time? Would a mower conditioner make any difference at all to this?

No, joking of course, we mow with a moco and leave the rows as wide as it can. If everything works at it should we pick up 24hrs later and it makes good silo in the clamp and no effluent.
Edit to add: this isn't rocket fuel silo, beef silage so not too lush
