Grass reseed

I’m taking on 30 acres adjacent to our grazing block, not been grazed in years, tussocks and redshank. How do I start?
Flail off and let regrow for glyphosate, there’s a hell of a mat and reeds too. It used to be grazed tidily years ago, I’ll try to get some pictures.

Soil test, spray it off, dung it heavily, plough it and put it into wheat in September.

I’d be thinking put rape and turnips on it to clean it up as a pioneer crop then reseed next year.

Going into grazing block, soil testing next week.

I could mow some of it, probably the majority, my milker took 2nd or probably 3rd quality hay off the furthest fields last year, but immediately adjacent fields are a real mess. We’d probably sow a 1 year Italian, perhaps some rape too , then drill long term ryegrass mix after this. Contractor has a forestry flail.
Pity we couldn’t just drop a match!

In the 70ts thats what we did , drop a match , cleared 40 acre a day , why I like the Italian it gives you time to sit back and see what you have , we sometimes have drain issues that show up after it's seeded as do weeds that can easily be sprayed out

Hybrids work well too in that situation I find they suppress weeds very well as long as you don’t scrimp on seed rates.

Grass and reeds going to the sword! The odd boulder round the edge but fine in the middle, round bale tomorrow and let grow back for glyphoshate. Then a wait, probably disc it to prep .

You've mowed it now but better to spray before imo, even if you have to spray a bit of regrowth again

I would have, but a lot of brown reeds and dead grass in some parts, price of Roundup now I thought I’d better get it on actively growing green material.

It's early enough , just give it plenty of time those grasses take time to green over, I grazed mine a week after spraying regrowth
