Will aim to plant third week in September after grass leys. Flufenscet plus defy, FB stomp Atlantis.
I've some dirty ground due for third wheat which will be ploughed, and if it's kind will go in with wheat during half term, or will be left for spring barley.
It's usually pretty decent. Actually breaking up the grass is usually the biggest issue. The ground is usually so hard it doesn't plough like you see folk on easy land just turning it over! I'd normally plough it in the second year. The trick seems to be in roguing the crap out of it year 1. It will still be an expensive crop to grow but usually the yields make it worth it.It will be interesting to see how you get on behind those grass leys of yours and what effect (if any) there has been on your grass weed burden.
Yup, strong land grass termination is nothing like the pictures you see. It's often a struggle to get anything in the ground, let alone turn it over nicely! It's usually pretty decent. Going forward, all my grass has been replaced with num3 on a non rotational basis for the next three years. Grass just wasn't paying.
There's no way you'd get a plough in this after three years of fairly intense silage.Yup, strong land grass termination is nothing like the pictures you see. It's often a struggle to get anything in the ground, let alone turn it over nicely!
Slightly different point, but once when I was feeling trendy I tried to kill organic grass without ploughing, in a hot summer. There's no way you'd get a plough in this after three years of fairly intense silage.
I will run a Simba mono over it, maybe twice. Then subsoil, press and roll. Walk away and not look at it. A month later, spray off, power harrow if needed and drill.
Yikes that sounds dear. As does the 300kg of nitrogen it will get. But I bet it yields
And it will the second and third year too.

Total disaster. Legs though it, taking most of 400hp pulling 4m of just grange low disturbance legs... wouldn't pull the whole machine.
then 4x over with the 2bs.
Still wouldn't die.
Then ploughed, not very well.
Not doing that again...
Not me. I plan to sell the Blackgrass Germinator (strip till drill) and buy a low disturbance drill on narrower rows.So who’s drilling early due to last autumn?

What make of drill do you have in mind ?Not me. I plan to sell the Blackgrass Germinator (strip till drill) and buy a low disturbance drill on narrower rows.
More cultivation where appropriate, including some ploughing in really dirty fields. Fallow land has already had manure & been ripped up.
No wheat sown before October, same as last year.
As per last year, Avadex on the back of the drill. Higher seed rates for crop competition too.
This won't work, you have forgotten to keep your fingers crossed for a drier season. Not me. I plan to sell the Blackgrass Germinator (strip till drill) and buy a low disturbance drill on narrower rows.

Just tweaking the factors I can control...This won't work, you have forgotten to keep your fingers crossed for a drier season.
