Have rang dales agri and have sorted a demo for start of July so I'm hoping it'll suit us. How does the tractor handle it when full, do you need the weights on the front.
We gave a 32 row one with 1000kg of weight on the drill for penetration and have 1200kg on the front. You wont need as much with a 24 row model

Looking at getting a 32 row as seems more use for grass. Was just wondering if we needed to look at some front weights for the tractor.
Unless you are in a wet area you will need a lot of weight to get it in the ground when dry, so I suppose it will depend on your tractor but on our jd 6130 we couldn’t get away with any less than a ton on the front.

I want to try drilling wheat into grassland, would be after a 3 year lay, spray the grass off and drill a week or so later. Would the ground be ok left or worked a little with a sub soiler or something similar.
I have a 4m Moore unidrill. I have drilled wheat into burnt off grass twice.
Best results came from a poor performing grass ley that was burnt off 6 weeks before drilling. The other field was pre harvest Rounduped before 4th cut then drilled the day after we lifted the silage. Emergence was patchy and I ended up redrilling 7 acres of a 26 acre field with spring barley.

Interesting, does not fill me with confidence, these direct drill's are expensive even with a grant!!
I remember a few years ago I did a trial, had an old lay, over 5 years I wanted to put wheat in, sprayed off with round up, heavy disk's it 3 times then combi drilled it, look a mess with tuffs of grass but the wheat came through a treat. Had a 4 ton/a crop.

The 24 row and 4m Erth cuts a slightly wider slot for the seed , maybe not enough to help much , but think I would be looking at the 4m and cross drilling , just some thoughts really

Did you buy a drill in the end ? I have a 2020 24 row Agriseeder with the larger hopper for sale if you were still interested.
What’s that worth out of interest?
Not as much as it should be due to bloody grants on the things.

£16,500 I'm asking.
This is its third season with me, just replaced with a Vaderstad Rapid for more output.
Has the Larger hopper to take grain and following harrow. Excellent condition.

Had an Erth since last year. If you go into the direct drilling machinery (I think) section, myself and a few others have written quite a bit about it. Basically... well built, simple, can sow cereals if you get the big hopper. Closes the slot quite nicely but like all disc drills, has its limitations on stiff ground. Setting seed depth is a bit of a faff but you get the hang of it, and once set, it's bang on. Sectional contour following a nice touch. Have successfully sown grass, herbal leys, AB9, wheat at 200kg/ha all direct into residue.

Love the tractor! Appreciating asset there!
