Dairy farmers are encouraged to attend one of a series of workshops to help them plan their autumn grazing, boost their profits and give themselves the best possible start to the 2020 season.
Facilitated by a Pasture to Profit consultant, the nation-wide workshops will explore target autumn grass covers, flat versus steep wedges and optimising production by maximising grazing.
By the end of the workshop, attendees will create an autumn grazing plan using their own grass growth data along with previous years’ averages.
Siwan Howatson, AHDB forage and grassland dairy scientist, said: “Getting your grazing right can have a big impact on the bottom line since every additional tonne of grass grazed increases profit by £334 per hectare per year.
“Pasture management this autumn will determine grass availability and quality next year so it’s really important you start off on the right foot now.”
The workshops are aimed at anyone actively involved in rotational paddock grazing management and attendees will be offered additional support after the meeting via a dedicated WhatsApp group.
