Gross train weight Land Rover defender

I have tried the dvsa and they have been little help, basically work want me to tow a drum trailer behind my 13 plate defender 130 mewp, took it in on farm weighbridge the Landry weighs 3500kg by itself unladen no trailer with trailer on back the whole vehicle and trailer combination weigh just over 4500kg. I have done the trailer test to enable me to tow a trailer over 750kg. The way I have read it on dvsa site is that the vehicle gross train weight cannot exceed 3500kg As this is what Land Rover can tow, as said before I have a new style licence which means can only drive vans cars etc not 7.5t but have done trailer test

Supprises me that a Landy weighs 3500kg ,,thought they were lighter ,,my LC colorodo weighs 2.8 and its got a dirty great lump of V6 iron in it

The landy does not weigh 3500KG, try a proper weighbridge.

If Landy is allready 3.5 tn then towing a trailer surely will bring it into a different class ,,the same as a 3.5 tn flat bed lorry and towing ,,is it B+E or B+C

The max train weight is whats written on the plate riveted to the vehical.

You need to know what the Maximum Authorised Mass of your LR130 is - if it exceeds 3500kg you can't drive it on category B on your licence, you'd need C1. If its under 3500kg and you have B+E on your licence you're fine to tow up to 3.5 tonnes behind it.

The DVLA advice re total train weight of 3,500kg refers to what you can drive on standard car licence
After passing trailer test you can tow any trailer up to 3,500 kg gross irrespective of gross train, provided towing vehicle is plated for it

Gross train weight of a 130 is 7000kg!

You are about to encounter a bigger problem which is if you tow for work you should have a taco fitted. We have had to fit them to all our vehicles that tow for work and get digital cards for all our drivers.

Look at vin plate, what does it say in the weights section?

As said, if you exceed 3500kgs gross train, you need a tachograph fitted for business use.

As is said above. Defender 130's have a plated weight of 3500kg and train weight of 7000kg..
Its up to you if are qualified for it.
Regarding taco..... This probably falls under the " tools of trade" exemption if he is using said cable drum during his work.

Its been over the quarries weigh bridge and with my IW tipper it tared out at 3760kg,,trailer weighs 960kg empty
