I’ve not considered that option, so don’t know the answer. Your quoted post looks vague enough that you can make up your own quantities to suit though.

You could always message RPW for clarification, but it will probably want sowing before you get an answer.🤐 I’m still waiting on an answer as to whether I can include white clover in a red clover ley, as one seed supplier told me was ok.

Flippin heck you guys in wales r lucky to be able to get money for this…. Grow your own protein/feed to save buying it off a wagon saving the world at the same time as saving money what could be more sustainable for business & the environment… All our lot in good old England want to do is pathetically reward low input grassland….. Where’s the standards like this in Elms if they insist it is about sustainable food production, no rainforest being cut down & no having to ship stuff from all over the world….??? @Janet Hughes Defra

You are kidding? How much does GS4 pay in England?

This Welsh scheme pays barely more than the seed cost for most options, along with the required soil tests, etc.

Ok so let's say we can decide on what's the best seed rate
Given that's a herbal ley at a lowish seed rate going in with it ,what seed rate would yoh recomended for peas and barley , sorry but undersown wholcrop is new to me and I understand peas can be a bit invasive

Yeh but GS4 is only available for arable reversion no good to us hill billies with PP & £300/ha is a bloody good help & saves you buying hard feed I wouldn’t be pleading poverty 😆😆 I grow 10 ha of peas barley every yr 3k towards it would be most helpful….

Where to use this option
It is available for Countryside Stewardship Mid Tier and Higher Tier on whole or part parcels in rotation, on:

arable land
temporary grassland
permanent grassland that has been cultivated and re-sown within the last 5 years

No, it's extra, on top of the BPS.
I'm getting £220/ha for putting in red clover leys. That pays for the seed, glyphosate, DD, and soil tests.
I don't think it's enough to encourage a big extra area to go in, but certainly worth having if you're doing it anyway imo.
Hills for you then possibly?

Is that on the growing for the environment? Any idea if the window is open again? I’ve got some red clover to go in too

Be November I except, no end have claimed, mainly on the grass Herbal ley

Really? I don’t know of anyone else that’s put in for it. Iirc it was a fairly small pot and I haven’t heard that it was oversubscribed at all.

As posted above, if you weren’t looking to do it anyway, why would you bother? :scratchhead:

Peanuts compared to the yeild you would have if sprayed.

I'm out on that option. My land is full of broad leafed arable weeds, a grass/clover reseed grazed hard fine, but an arable silage crop would be charlock, fat hen & redshank here.
