I am feeling down today, went to feed the tups this morning and only 2 at the gate my pal Jock was a the dikeside and seamed to be trying to get up his back end was folding on him. took him in and got the vet out. know signs of broken bones ect it seamed to be nerves or something. So put to sleep seamed the best option (gutted), I took 5 mins with him as the vet go sorted out with stuff. I had his head on my lap as the vet was injecting him with the second dose and the needle poped of the syringe and the stuff squirted in the vets eye (OH) good job I have eyewash in the shed, as the vet was dealing with his eye I did the bold thing and finished the job. vet is off the the doctor for a checkup hope he is ok

RIP JOCK the tup

I had one which lost the use of his back legs,he could just stand and drag them along behind.I was going to shoot him but gradually, over the weeks,he slowly improved. He ended up with a slightly arched back and slightly stiff back legs ,we were then able to sell him in the cull market.Yours may well of been a different type of back injury though.

I am pleased that you are prepared to share this story. Too many folk laugh at those of us who have a genuine attachment to our stock. I'm fortunate enough to have my firearms cert' and have had to struggle to walk to a pen to do the decent thing. My wife knows to leave me alone for a while if she sees me walking out with the .22 and my head down. Anything I have to shoot dies with it's head in a feed bucket after it has had its lugs scratched.

Feeling a bit better today away from the farm for a few days , is just what I needed,
I did consider treating him but it looked like a lost cause and it was killing me seeing him in that state,
Some of us have a stronger connection to out animal’s than we sometimes realise ,
I am on the hunt for a replacement for next season if anyone knows of a good Charlie x beltex tup
